Day 14: Stillness | Freedom & Flow 2025

Continuing down the path of spiritual rest, I want to sharpen our focus today specifically on stillness.

We live in a world that’s constantly buzzing with updates and calendars that fill up faster and fuller, making finding moments for stillness even harder. But if we can’t find them, then we have to create them. I’ve been intentional about honoring the Sabbath, making the better part of my Sundays my time to unplug and connect more deeply with God. During the week, I reserve the first moments of my morning to do the same. Beyond calming my nervous system, I’ve found that stillness allows me to hear back from God. Prayer is how we talk to Him, but stillness is how we listen.

The Bible reminds us to be still and trust God (Psalm 46:10, Exodus 14:14). God’s power is revealed in our stillness. Like many practices in this fast, stillness is not passive—it’s an act of trust. It’s choosing to surrender, believing that even in the silence, God is working. And in a culture that tells us to keep moving and fix everything, stillness is bold and courageous. Sometimes, the most faith-filled thing we can do is simply stop, breathe, and listen.

Yes, it can be hard, especially for those of us with restless minds or full schedules. But God doesn’t call us to perfect stillness—just presence. Even messy or awkward pauses create space for God to move in ways that busyness and distractions can’t.

So today, especially if you are honoring the Sabbath, check in with yourself: How much time will I dedicate to stillness with God? Whether through prayer, reflection, or just sitting in silence, trust that God is working and speaking, even in the quiet. Can you set aside just 10 minutes to unplug, breathe, and listen for God’s voice today?
