Day 4: Guidance | Freedom & Flow 2025

Day 4 is on getting guidance from God. A big step on our journey to freedom & flow is learning how to clearly hear from God. Of course, it’s easier to pick up the phone and reach out to a friend, dump on a spouse, or vent to a therapist (especially, if we have a good one). And I'd bet that most of us have gone down the slippery slope of a late-night scroll searching for answers. But we have to remember that God is the source, and everything (and everyone) else is just a resource. That’s why we’re called to seek Him first (read: Matthew 6:33).

Seeking God for guidance isn’t just asking questions and waiting for a divine sign to smack us in the face. (Although sometimes He does answer through a confirming word or a waving red flag). More often, though, it’s about learning to be still and quiet enough to hear Him. I struggle daily to be less like Martha and more like Mary (read: Luke 10:38-42), because I know that sitting at God’s feet is one of the most powerful practices we can develop.

Spending time with Him helps us better discern His voice. There’s this cute and wholesome trend on social, where people line up behind someone, like a teacher or grandparent, and call their name to see if that person recognizes their voice. And nine times out of ten, they do because of the time they’ve spent with them. The same idea applies to our relationship with God. The more time we spend in His Word, the more easily we’ll recognize His voice.

So today, ask yourself, “Where am I seeking guidance?” And if it’s not from the source, then make the pivot. Ask God for clarity in an area of your life, and then sit with Him. Open His Word, unplug, quiet your mind, and trust that He will lead you. I know our attention spans are shorter and our lives are busier than ever before, but nothing is more important than our time with our Creator. Let’s be intentional about listening for the voice that truly matters.
